California Democrat Senator-elect Adam Schiff is doubling down on his<\/p>\n
false, unfounded claims of Trump-Russian collusion years later.<\/p>\n
In an appearance on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union,\u201d host Jake Tapper questioned<\/p>\n
Schiff regarding President-elect Donald Trump\u2019s recent cabinet picks, <\/p>\n
which included Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou were censured in the House last year for, in their view, holding positions<\/p>\n
of power during the Trump presidency as chairman of the House Intelligence <\/p>\n
Committee, and, according to them, \u2018abusing this trust by saying there was<\/p>\n
evidence of collusion between Trump\u2019s campaign and Russia,\u2019\u201d Tapper said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I wonder if you are feeling at all, introspective at all, about that was,<\/p>\n
according to the Mueller report and according to your Republican colleagues,<\/p>\n
an overstatement? And I wonder if you think, in any way, you helped set the table for these disruptors?\u201d Tapper asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst of all, it wasn\u2019t an overstatement,\u201d Schiff answered. \u201cThere is evidence<\/p>\n
of collusion. The Trump campaign manager was meeting with Russian intelligence <\/p>\n
and giving them internal polling data, just to give you one example. And the Mueller report sets all this out.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt does say, \u2018The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump<\/p>\n
campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election<\/p>\n
interference activities,\u2019 which doesn\u2019t mean that he didn\u2019t, that there <\/p>\n
weren\u2019t meetings, but they didn\u2019t find evidence of it,\u201d Tapper followed up.<\/p>\n
Schiff said, \u201cMueller says that, too. He says, \u2018The fact that we didn\u2019t find<\/p>\n
proof beyond a reasonable doubt doesn\u2019t mean there wasn\u2019t evidence of conspiracy or coordination.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The House of Representatives censured Schiff in 2023 in a party-line vote for his<\/p>\n
repeated allegations that Trump\u2019s 2016 campaign conspired with Russia to gain<\/p>\n
the presidency. Earlier that year, he was also dismissed from the House Intelligence Committee.<\/p>\n
His allegations were based on the notorious Steele dossier, which said that the<\/p>\n
Kremlin possessed blackmail information against Trump and that Trump\u2019s team had conspired with Russia.<\/p>\n
In his report, Special Counsel Robert Mueller concluded in 2019 that there was<\/p>\n
no proof of Trump\u2019s collusion with Russia.<\/p>\n
In 2021, Special Counsel John Durham accused Russian analyst Ivan Danchenko,<\/p>\n
who was thought to be the main subsource for the Steele dossier, of lying to the FBI, further undermining the dossier\u2019s credibility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
