A Redditor shared a story on Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit on August 6, 2022, about an uncomfortable vacation with her husband’s family.
Initially uninvited, she asked to join, hoping to bond with his family. They agreed, though surprised to see her.
On the third day, while preparing fruit salad, she overheard her mother-in-law ask, “…
did she really have nowhere else to spend the weekend?” Her husband replied, “I KNOW!!!!
And I didn’t want to bring her with me but what was I supposed to do?!!! You know how pushy she can get.”
Feeling hurt and unwanted, the Redditor immediately bought a ticket and flew back home. Her husband later accused her of being disrespectful
and juvenile for leaving abruptly. He insisted, “his family will warm up to me on their terms
so I should stop pushing to be around them when they don’t feel comfortable with it.”
The Redditor concluded, “Basically saying it was my fault for coming along in the first place.”
She felt devastated, as she had spent the vacation cleaning, cooking, and looking after the kids,
only to be seen as an inconvenience. Her husband’s reaction left her questioning her place in his family and the effort she had made to fit in.
