Beccy Barr, the former host of FRONT BBC, passed away after
a long illness. Ms. Barr left her TV anchor position in
2019 to join Lancashire Fire & Rescue, her father Roy’s
employer, after 20 years in journalism.
In February 2022, she proudly announced on social media that
she had passed all her end-point exams, covering theoretical,
interview, and practical sections. However, in December of last year,
Ms. Barr revealed she had been diagnosed with “incurable cancer.”
“Two lessons I’ve learned from this obviously less-than-ideal experience,”
she wrote, “1) Life is absurd. 2) The amount of love, concern,
and friendship that people can have for one another is astounding.”
Earlier today, her family announced her passing on the social
media platform X. “I am very sorry to say that Beccy died peacefully this morning,” they posted at 2:15 p.m.
“She spent her final days at @SJHospice, where she and her family were treated with the utmost dignity and kindness.”
Donations in honor of Beccy can be made to the hospice.
Ms. Barr’s early career included working for the Blackpool Citizen and seven years at BBC North West Tonight.
