A passerby, Ashad Russell, who intervened during an attack on
a Florida sheriff’s deputy, was cleared of any wrongdoing by
the State Attorney’s Office. Russell, 35, saw Deputy Dean Bardes
being assaulted on Interstate 75. Russell, who had a concealed carry,
permit, acted to protect the deputy after being instructed to do so.
The State Attorney’s Office determined Russell’s actions were justified.
Sheriff Mike Scott praised Russell’s response, though Strother’s brother
expressed disagreement. The case was reviewed and closed with no further action.
