Phoebe Cates, a Hollywood star of the 1980s known for films like Gremlins,
made a surprising choice to step away from acting at the height of her career. After
marrying actor Kevin Kline in 1989, they prioritized family life over Hollywood fame.
The couple, who share two children, Owen and Greta, decided to alternate their work schedules
to ensure one parent was always present at home. Cates, choosing to stay home full-time,
embraced domestic life, cooking dinner and raising their children without outside help.
Her decision was driven by a love for her family rather than necessity. Both of their children
pursued careers in the arts, with Owen becoming a filmmaker and Greta a successful indie musician.
Cates also opened a boutique, Blue Tree, reflecting her creative spirit. The couple remains
largely private, living outside Hollywood and maintaining a stable, family-focused life,
with Cates and Kline now celebrating over 35 years of marriage.
