On January 29, 2025, a mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a US Army
Blackhawk helicopter near Washington DC killed all 64 passengers on the plane and three soldiers
on the helicopter. Two soldiers, Staff Sgt. Ryan O’Hara and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Eaves,
were identified, while Eaves’ remains have not been recovered. The third soldier’s identity is
withheld at the family’s request. The incident is under investigation by the NTSB, FAA,
and US Army, which has expressed condolences and pledged full cooperation
