“Sound of Freedom,” the Jim Caviezel-led film about Tim Ballard’s crusade to end sex trafficking by rescuing the kids caught up in the horrific industry, is continuing to notch major victories on its belt, both with audiences and with the theaters screening it across the country.
The substantial victory it just won with theaters is in terms of distribution: with a relatively small number of theaters screening it from the start, any additional theaters adding it to their line up opens up new potential audiences to the film. As the film goes into its fourth week in theaters, that’s important because it means the film could keep doing well despite the time it’s been out because more and more people have the opportunity to see it in theaters.
Angel Studios announced that hundreds of new theaters have decided to show the powerful film that has taken America by storm, in a recent press release in which it noted that the film is still bringing in millions in revenues as more and more theaters add it, with now nearly three and a half thousand movie theaters showing “Sound of Freedom.”
That press release said, “Angel Studios, the platform empowering filmmakers with full creative control to crowdfund and create, has reached a new theatrical milestone. Angel’s hit movie SOUND OF FREEDOM is continuing to add screens this weekend, representing the fourth consecutive weekend in which the film is adding additional screens. SOUND OF FREEDOM enters its fourth weekend screening in 3,411 theaters, and is crossing the total booking threshold of over 4,000 screens and topping $130M in box office revenue.”
Brandon Purdie, Angel Studios Head of Theatrical, was quoted in the press release as saying, “Everyone in the industry knows that films are generally supposed to lose screens week-over-week, not add them. And yet, the incredible word-of-mouth driving SOUND OF FREEDOM continues to spread. In response, we are continuing to expand our offering in theaters this weekend. Our theatrical partners have stepped up in a huge way to allow for more people to see the film.”
So, the film that started out on July 3 with just 2,634 movie theaters screening it added hundreds of theaters to its distribution list and now has, as of July 28, 3,411 theaters screening it.
Why more and more theaters are adding the film to their lineups is obvious: the film is still a strong performer and the movie industry, hammered by both Covid-19 and audiences not wanting to watch terrible, woke films, needs a big hit.
Evidence of the continued success of “Sound of Freedom” comes from another press release from Angel Studios. “Angel Studios—a platform and studio empowering filmmakers to crowdfund, create, and distribute films and TV series globally, backed by thousands of Angel investors—is announcing its July cumulative-to-date and fourth weekend results for its Alejandro Monteverde written and directed film SOUND OF FREEDOM. Angel Studios is projecting nearly $150 million total cumulative box office revenue through Sunday, with a strong $12,409,300 million box office draw in the fourth weekend of the film’s domestic release,” the press release said.
Purdie was quoted in that press release as well, saying, “Throughout our fourth weekend, audiences have continued to show up and support SOUND OF FREEDOM, and our theatrical partners have given us ample real estate to meet that continued demand. We now know that this incredible film is going to surpass the $150 million mark domestically, and we’re strongly positioned to go well past that.”
