Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum criticized the Trump administration’s decision to

label eight drug cartels, including Jalisco New Generation and Sinaloa, as terrorist

organizations. She emphasized that Mexico would not allow the U.S. to infringe on its sovereignty or intervene in its internal affairs.

Sheinbaum stated that Mexico would only engage in collaboration with the U.S.,

not subordination or invasion. This response came after the Trump administration’s move,

which opened the door for potential military action against the cartels.

Elon Musk, leading the Department of Government Efficiency, suggested that the cartels

could become eligible for drone strikes. However, experts believe military action, such as bombing or invading Mexico, is unlikely.

The U.S. has already increased the use of drones targeting Mexican fentanyl labs, part

of a covert program started under the Biden administration. Mexico has also vowed to

pursue legal action against U.S. gun manufacturers if the cartels are officially labeled as terrorist groups.
