Andrew Garfield was presenting an award with Goldie Hawn at the 2025 Oscars, when a heartwarming moment took place.

Before the duo presented the award for Best Animated Film this Sunday, March 2, 2025 in Las Vegas’

Dolby Theater, Garfield turned to Hawn to say a few special words. He told the The First

Wives Club actress about how she brought joy in ways she had no idea of. He thanked her

for giving “my mother the most joy, the most comfort” during her life. Garfield has always

been vocal about his love for his mother who died in 2019 on pancreatic cancer.

“I feel very lucky because I get to thank that person from the bottom of my heart. That

person is Goldie Hawn,” he said to the actress as he held her hand. “You’ve given us movies

full of joy. You’ve lifted our spirits and you’ve made us feel it all was right with the world, over and over again,” he said.

Hawn was flattered at Garfield’s heartfelt thanks, and said, “Thank you so much, that really touches me.”

“I was so lucky [to] make movies… and making people laugh,” she shared. “And maybe

some didn’t, but that’s okay,” she added. The sweet words Garfield said to Hawn made the actress emotional.

Garfield has never shied away from discussing his grief over losing his mom. When he was

discussing his role in the film We Live In Time, he talked about it, saying, “I’m not special

in that regard… [but] one of the most healing and reassuring, soothing moments I’ve had,

is realizing that this has been the way it’s been since time immemorial.”

“Sons have been losing their mothers, daughters have been losing their mothers [since the beginning of time],”

the actor shared. “We’re lucky if it’s that way around, rather than the other. And of course,

countless parents lose their children in one way or another too, I can’t even imagine what that must feel like,” he said.

Andrew Garfield really has a special way with words. The 41-year-old actor can truly make
