Just over two weeks after President Donald Trump’s return to the White House, Rep.

Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, announced a new impeachment campaign against him.

Green’s call for impeachment stems from Trump’s controversial plan for U.S. control

of the Gaza Strip, which includes resettling nearly 2 million Palestinians and developing

the land for American use. This proposal has drawn accusations of ethnic cleansing and potential violations of international law.

Green’s push for impeachment is not his first. He previously introduced three impeachment

attempts during Trump’s first term, which were largely dismissed by Democratic leaders

who sought to focus on other legislative priorities. Despite resistance within his own party,

Green’s repeated calls for impeachment helped influence the national debate and contributed

to Trump becoming the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice.

Trump’s first impeachment in 2019 stemmed from his phone call with Ukraine’s president,

which led to charges of abuse of power. The Senate acquitted him. His second impeachment

followed the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, with the House charging him with “incitement

of insurrection,” though he was again acquitted in the Senate.
