Greenland’s Prime Minister, Múte Bourup Egede, firmly rejected Donald Trump’s
claim that the U.S. would acquire Greenland “one way or another.” In response,
Egede stated, “Kalaallit Nunaat is ours,” emphasizing that Greenlanders are neither
American nor Danish but an independent people. Trump, addressing Congress on March 4,
insisted that Greenland is vital for U.S. and international security, saying, “We welcome you
into the United States… and together, we will take Greenland to heights like never before.”
He added, “One way or another, we’re going to get it.” Denmark’s Foreign Minister,
Lars Løkke Rasmussen, dismissed the idea, expressing confidence that Greenlanders
do not wish to become part of the U.S. He also stressed that Greenland’s
upcoming elections should remain free from foreign influence
