Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 65, were found dead in their New Mexico
home under tragic circumstances. Arakawa died on February 11 from hantavirus, a rare virus
linked to rodent droppings. Hackman, suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s, likely didn’t realize
what had happened and survived for about a week before dying from heart disease on February 18.
Their bodies were discovered on February 26. Although their home showed no signs of rodents,
some outbuildings had evidence of infestation. Hackman was found near the kitchen, possibly
after a fall, with his cane and sunglasses nearby. Their dog, Zinna, also died, likely due to being crated after a medical procedure.
Though Hackman’s condition had declined, friends were shocked by his isolation in his final days.
The couple, who had been together for over 30 years, leaves behind a legacy of love,
and their deaths have deeply saddened Hollywood and fans alike.
