Our Meddling Neighbor Got Our Cars Towed from Our Own Driveway

Jack and I had only been in our new rental for a day when our neighbor, Lindsey, came over with a tray of cookies.

She introduced herself in a high-pitched, overly friendly way but quickly shifted to discussing neighborhood rules.

Specifically, the HOA had a strict “one car per driveway” policy. Although both our cars fit perfectly, Lindsey insisted

it applied to everyone, including temporary residents like us. We politely accepted the cookies, dismissing her concerns

as over-the-top. But three days later, I woke to the sound of tow trucks. Both our cars were being lifted off the driveway.

In the cold morning light, I saw Lindsey standing in her bathrobe, sipping coffee and clearly relishing the moment. Angry,

I confronted the tow truck drivers, but they only cited the HOA rule. That’s when I realized Lindsey had reported us. With a smile,

I pointed out a small sticker on the back windshield of my car — a mark only those in the know would recognize. Lindsey’s expression

changed instantly. That evening, I called the authorities, and the next morning, a federal agent showed up at Lindsey’s door.

He informed her that her actions had disrupted an active undercover operation, costing the government $25,000. Her shocked face

told the whole story, and as she stammered, the agent informed her she’d be investigated. Before walking away, I told Lindsey,

“Next time, maybe just bake the cookies and leave it at that. ”Lindsey’s door stayed closed the rest of the day, and the pristine bushes she had once been proud of never quite recovered
