Though no longer in office, Joe Biden made headlines with a bold speech in Chicago, calling out efforts to cut Social Security and indirectly criticizing
Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers. Speaking at the Advocates, Counselors and Representatives for the Disabled conference, Biden emphasized Social Security’s
importance:“73 million Americans pay in their whole lives. We must never betray that trust.” He slammed a proposal to reauthorize Social Security every five
years, saying, “Who the hell do they think they are?” Biden also criticized Trump’s tax cuts and rising debt, calling the current administration’s approach
reckless: “They’re shooting first and aiming later. The result? Needless pain.” Quoting a colleague, Biden warned, “They want to wreck it so they can rob it.”
He closed by reaffirming his stance: “I refuse to go along with any of it.” The speech reignited debate: Is Social Security a sacred promise, or is reform overdue?
