Sanford and Howland Communities Mourn After Devastating Plane Crashes

Two U.S. communities are reeling after separate tragic plane crashes claimed the lives of beloved families. In Sanford,

North Carolina, Travis and Candace Buchanan and their two children were killed when their Cirrus SR22T aircraft crashed just one mile from

Raleigh Executive Jetport on July 7, 2025. The NTSB has launched an investigation, citing engine and navigation issues reported shortly before impact.

The Buchanans, known for operating Buchanan Farms and hosting community events, were deeply rooted in Lee County.

Their children’s school, Grace Christian Sanford, issued a moving tribute, with teachers and classmates remembering the children’s

joyful presence. Friends described the family as generous and service-minded, making the loss deeply felt throughout the region.

Just over a week earlier, a Cessna 441 crashed in Howland Township, Ohio, shortly after takeoff on June 29, 2025, killing all six onboard.

Among the victims were members of the Weller family, respected local business owners, and two flight crew members. The crash has also drawn NTSB attention.

Both tragedies have sparked outpourings of grief, with vigils, social media tributes, and fundraisers honoring the victims.

As investigations continue, communities are focused on remembering lives lost and offering support to the grieving.
