Respectful Attire: Colors to Skip at Funerals

Attending a funeral is about respect, and attire plays a key role. Clothing should reflect humility and tradition,

not distract from the service. Choosing the wrong color can appear insensitive, especially to older generations who value formality.

Colors to Avoid

Bright Red – Associated with passion and celebration, red is inappropriate at funerals. It draws attention

away from the ceremony. Safer options are navy, charcoal gray, or muted earth tones.

Neon or Vibrant Shades – Colors like neon pink, lime green, or bright yellow feel playful and festive.

Even small neon accessories can appear disrespectful. Choose muted pastels, subdued greens, or deep browns instead.

Shiny Metallics – Fabrics with sequins, gold, or silver catch light and stand out. While fine for parties,

they are distracting at funerals. Matte fabrics in dark tones are best.

What to Wear Instead
Classic, understated clothing always works. Black is the safest choice, while navy, charcoal, and brown are also suitable.

Women can wear dresses, skirts, or pantsuits; men should opt for suits, button-down shirts, and conservative ties. Accessories and shoes should remain simple.

When in doubt, keep attire dark, modest, and respectful. Funerals are about compassion, not fashion.
