Surprising Shower Drain Trick: Drop a Balloon

No one wants to find cockroaches in the shower, and these pests love bathrooms for their warmth,

moisture, and dark hiding spots. But there’s a surprisingly simple way to block them using something you probably already have — a balloon.

Roaches often enter through drains, especially when there’s standing water or leftover residue.

While cleaning and drying the bathroom regularly helps, this clever hack adds an extra layer of protection.

Here’s how the balloon trick works:

Remove the drain cover to access the opening.

Cut off both ends of a regular party balloon to make a flexible tube.

Slip the balloon over the drain cover and secure it back in place.

Replace it occasionally to keep it clean and tight.

Water will still drain normally, but the snug balloon seal stops roaches from crawling up. The narrow, flexible layer allows flow in one direction — out, not in.

For best results, also seal cracks near pipes, wipe surfaces dry, and keep toilet lids closed. A clean,

dry bathroom removes what roaches crave most — moisture and shelter. With a little creativity (and a balloon),

you can make your shower a roach-free zone again.
