Steve Perry’s voice defined an era. As Journey’s frontman, he gave the world soaring anthems like “Don’t Stop Believin’”

and “Open Arms.” With his mix of rock strength and soulful emotion, Perry became one of music’s greatest vocalists — even

earning a Rolling Stone ranking among the top 100 singers of all time. Yet at the height of fame, he made a stunning decision: to walk away.

Joining Journey in 1977, Perry transformed the band’s sound with guitarist Neal Schon, fueling a decade of multiplatinum hits and sold-out tours.

But by 1987, drained from nonstop work, he stepped back. A brief solo career and a mid-’90s reunion

followed before he disappeared from the spotlight, later saying he had simply “hit the wall.”

During his years of silence, Perry found love with Kellie Nash, a PhD candidate battling cancer.

Her courage rekindled his spirit, and before her passing in 2012, she urged him not to hide from life again.

In 2018, Perry returned with Traces, his first album in over 20 years — a heartfelt tribute to Kellie
