When 21-year-old Lucas Martin came home feeling under the weather, his family assumed it was just freshers’ flu — a common

bug among young students. He had recently graduated from the University of Liverpool and was full of plans for the future. But within days,

his mild symptoms turned severe. Despite receiving medical attention, Lucas’s condition deteriorated rapidly, and he tragically passed away soon after.

Doctors later confirmed the cause was meningitis, an infection that can develop swiftly and often without the classic warning signs.

“It all happened so fast,” his brother Connor Martin shared. “Lucas was bright, determined, and had so much ahead of him.”

His family now hopes that by sharing his story, others will take even minor symptoms seriously — because early action can save lives.

To honor Lucas, the Martins created Looky’s Aid, a charity offering scholarships and health education for young people.

The organization partners with schools and universities across the UK to raise awareness about meningitis and other preventable illnesses.
