It was a peaceful Sunday along the Brazos River in Johnson County, Texas — families laughing, children playing, and the golden light of

late autumn glimmering on the water. Among them were two brothers, 7-year-old Bowyn Miller and 4-year-old Banx McAmis, full of energy and joy.

But as evening fell, their laughter vanished. Within minutes, their parents’ calls went unanswered — and panic spread across Hamm Creek Park.

Rescue crews arrived quickly, searching the shoreline and waters for two agonizing hours. When Bowyn and Banx were found around 8:30 p.m., responders

did everything possible, but it was too late. Both boys had drowned — a devastating reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike near open water.

“It only takes a moment,” said Lt. Keven George of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. “You look away for a second.”

The community’s grief was immediate and profound. Vigils were held, flowers placed by the river, and fundraisers raised more than $35,000

to support the family. Teachers remembered Bowyn as curious and kind; Banx as a playful spark who loved Ninja Turtles.

Together, they were inseparable — two brothers whose bond, and loss, touched an entire town.
