Why Your Bathtub Could Be the Safest Spot for Your Bags

After a long day of travel, I checked into a cozy hotel, unpacked, and casually looked up reviews—only to see

one terrifying word: bedbugs. Panic set in as I imagined the tiny pests crawling into my suitcase and following me home.

That’s when I discovered an unusual but clever solution: store your luggage in the bathtub.

It may sound odd, but it works. Bedbugs hide in mattresses, headboards, and curtains, drawn to fabric.

They avoid smooth, cold surfaces like a bathtub, making it a perfect temporary safe zone while you inspect the room.

Even if pests aren’t a concern, tubs offer other advantages. Hotel floors and carpets often hide dirt and bacteria,

while bathrooms are usually cleaned more thoroughly. The tub also protects luggage from spills or leaky toiletries.

My routine is simple: place the suitcase in the tub, then check the mattress seams, curtains,

and furniture for stains or pests. Once the room seems clean, move the bag to a luggage rack.

It’s a small, smart precaution that keeps your belongings safe and gives you peace of mind. Next time you check in,

remember — the cleanest, safest spot for your suitcase might just be the bathtub.
